Mattanchery Palace
In 1568 the Portuguese built the Mattanchery palace and gifted to King Veera Kerala Varma. Later it was rebuilt by the Duch and called as Duch Palace. The traditional Kerala style of architecture was followed in the construction of the palace. This beautiful double storeyed structure was built in the pattern of nalukettu. There is a temple with wooden Walls on which beautiful pictures were painted. The interior walls of the palace were depicted with the stories of Ramayana. 19th century wall paintings can be seen in some of the bedrooms. The most remarkable feature of the Mattanchery Palace is that it was constructed by the western people in eastern style of architecture.
