Somnath Temple

Somanath was a pilgrim city in Gujarat. The Chalukyas who ruled at that time built a Siva temple. It is believed that this temple was first built in gold by a king Raja Soman before 11^th century. Later another king krishnaraja made the maintenance in silver. After the attack of Mehmood Gazni, Somnath temple was rebuilt in black granite. Again in 13^th century this temple had been attacked and rebuilt later. Today Somanath temple stands as a brilliant example of wooden pillars beautifully carved and decorated with precious gems. The 13-storeyed magnificient tower is crowned with 14 golden domes. The Somanath temple is one of the main attractions for tourists.
